The drawback of Shingle Roofs

1. Durability

Asphalt shingles are less durable compared to other roofing materials. Especially in areas with strong winds and colder temperatures, shingles are more susceptible to damage wherein these factors also contributed to the deterioration of the material. On strong winds, with its thinness and lightweight, it can be easily ripped off during a strong blow of wind. On colder days, it can also be very brittle and can break. Organic shingles are also more water-absorbent which lessens the durability of the materials.

2. Lifespan

Compared to other roofing materials, shingles don’t last long which is why this material’s warranty is also shorter. It can last for at most 50 years, depending on the material and how well you maintain it, and depending on how weather changes from time to time. But for its price, its service price is reasonable enough.

During the cold days, it can be easily brittle and if water is present, moisture can penetrate your material which will cause it to warp. This excess moisture cannot just cause it to warp but also lead it to moss or mildew growth which can grow all around your roof and have extensive damage. It needs to be cleaned from time to time, and be replaced immediately before it gets worse.
